Zoo Keeper fun!

Fired up MAMEUI today and my #2 list folder was showing, and I noticed Zoo Keeper at the bottom, and was all, 'damn, I haven't played that in a while!' So I did - and was rewarded with greatness!! I'd say at least partly because of the controls-response. Diggin it. Reds in HLSL are funky, though. Hehn, repeating record there huh? Well, cos it's wrong-ess, yo. Anyways, the goodies....
That fourth escalator run is hard...

Yeah, most of my best of any game are 'haven't played it in a spell, let's do it!' I may've gotten a 250k jump once or twice.
Last year I looked up high score plays on youtube, and found one where they seemed to pretty effortlessly get to 15m. I absorbed a little of their play, but it didn't stick. The method was to run quickly through the boards, in particular the ledges, and that isn't as fun to me.
Another thing is that the trick to getting big-score jumps is getting the animals in the same direction - but at least in MAME, the game cheats in later levels right off the bat by sending them out in both directions. You can't just be facing one direction. There has to be a wall built, and you have to be at the opening, facing it for them to run away from you.
I've tried varous methods, but in the end I get my scores mostly the long way.

I was playing a game before bed, pretty damn tired, and my U360 was mis-behaving, else I would've done better. But I ended up besting my high score of 1.5M. Capturing eight lions at the last screen before the four escalators (again) was a real help.
