NFL Blitz menu options
#357467 - 08/08/16 08:38 PM

Hi guys,

So I was nosing around with the Blitz games and noticed in the MAME settings, that there are settings for CPU speed and screen resolution. Should these have any affect on performance? Similar with how Golden Tee Fore! performs when the resolution is dropped down from "medium" to "low".

Also, I hit F3 to play around in the game's menu system, but for some reason I only get a black screen and I never get to the menus (violence settings, language, things like that). In past versions of MAME, I could access the menus. I noticed that many of the CHD type games have a diff file...what do the diff files do?

I'm running 0.172. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jason

As far as the DIP settings for resolution/graphics speed, your guess is as good as mine. I presume they are there for different actual monitor types. Best thing you can do it try some benchmarking with each setting to find something you like. DIFF (short for difference), is a file that contains the adjustments that have been made to the base CHD image. The CHD must remain the same and unmodified so these changes are logged there. F3 is Machine Reset (when available) and Service Mode/Test Switch is F2. You want to hit F2 (or adjust the Test Switch DIP) then restart MAME or use SHIFT+F3. AFAIK, F3 has never functioned as a game reset for this machine.
