Galaxian3 'Project Dragoon' LD footage
#353735 - 04/30/16 04:41 PM

Just uploaded the Galaxian3 "Project Dragoon" native laserdisc arcade footage, reassembled left + right pictures.
So if some dev guys plan to work on the emulation, I'll gladly provide raw footage / better quality without watermarks =)
For now, it's here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fecUoBnABB0

EDIT :
Also available here now : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x47yvfo

There was a person working on Galaxian3, but that was years ago and no one has heard from him since. I can only speculate that whoever was working on it no longer is.

Looks like it already got blocked? "This video contains content from Victor Entertainment, Inc.. It is not available in your country."

Hard to believe whoever owns it even knows they own it.

Is the woman on the left channel an Aussie or a Kiwi? She sounds out of place juxtaposed with the American male voices.

Thanks for doing this and also rescuing the cab/system years earlier to make preservation and maybe being completely emulated in the future possible.

For my preferred arcade years preference since my arcade years were from 1969 through 1990 would be for Kasco The Driver Arcade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohsgai630co because I played the game a few times myself during 1970s.

What would be great is if the digital data from film reels be sent in because I still have a feeling the film reel games might have a chance of being emulated even though it is a long shot at this time. I know film and VHS tape support isn't handled yet and it might be a while of being supported, but with MAME now able to run some non-cpu video games and now handheld games and some EM mechanical games to some limited degree along with various hardware and musical instruments and calculators, it does show what can be supported.

I wish there was some way to contact the person (Nintendo Arcade) that has Nintendo Battle Shark and Sky Hawk film reels. That would be outstanding if those two Nintendo game film reels could be preserved like what you did with The Driver film reel.

I do have both Sky Hawk (operators manual) and Sky Hawk (theory operations manual) so it should be possible to emulate Sky Hawk, but up to some extent. Nintendo Sky Hawk uses a mirror piece and it moves to reflect to film screen when a plane is struck. The Sky Hawk film reel has two split cells. One part of a single cell frame of Sky Hawk displays airplane model while intact and the other split cell displays the explosion effect when plane is hit.

The mirror piece can quickly reflect onto film screen of either the plan when it is intact or when plane model explodes.

It is really an ingenious design method because it meant Nintendo only had to use a single projector unit as opposed to two projection units which was the case with Nintendo WG.

btw: In case others visiting here missed the old thread in January. At least some actual slides used during attract mode sequence with WG and Shooting Trainer are preserved, but as usual still need any of the 8 film reels that are used with Nintendo WG cab. Shooting Trainer uses a bottle projection unit to display the individual bottle pieces which means having to track down one of those in order to recreate the artwork components in order for Shooting Trainer to be emulated.

The only person that work on the emulation for this game was Naibo and he then disappeared for unknown reason. So I'm sure there's some other devs that's willing to work on it.

Has anyone confirmed how many different film reels were made for this game?

I just watched both of the YouTube videos, and believe that they were shot in France. However, looking at the flyer (http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=flyer&db=arcadedb&id=1064&image=1), it appears as though there may also have been footage shot in Japan.

Red cars were used in both the European and Japanese footage, but were not the same make and model. There are also notable differences such as number plates on the cars being different, the Japanese footage was clearly shot in a right-hand drive country as traffic keeps to the left, signs are different, etc.

So... How many film reels were there for this game?

No idea. My guess is either 3 or 4 different films were created for the game.
