Finally the new version is out with more goodies... sorry for the 3 months delay.
Highlights - support for MAME v0.171 new settings - quick scan mode is not ultra-slow anymore (games audit) - changes in image category/layout settings screen can be aborted - UI tweaks and code optimizations
Go to http://emuloader.mameworld.info for more info.

I'm having trouble running non-arcade games (former MESS games). In my Default settings, I have in my Path to ROM Sets and CHD Files "roms" and "software". The software folder is where I have all of my MESS software subfolders. When I try to add a path with subfolders, it adds all of the paths of each subfolder to the path list. But when I run EmuLoader after I do that, it crashes - even running just normal arcade games.
Anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong? How many paths should be in the Path list? Just roms and software, or should it list every subfolder of software? I tried it both with and without driver letters, but still get the same problem (for example, I tried: e:\emulator\mame\software".
Thanks for any help that you may provide.

I don't need subfolders to make it work. Try to edit it directly via Mame.ini
My Mame.ini looks like this and it works: rompath roms;CHD;software

Thanks for the advice. My mame.ini is setup the same way (it has roms;software in the roms path). I did do a fresh install for this Emuloader release so perhaps that may have something to do with it. The software list loading used to work for me on the previous release. The specific error I get in Emuloader is "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
When I add all of the software subfolders to the Emuloader configuration, the error I get appears to be in Mame (the mame64.exe console window shows the error that starts with "Exception at EIP..." while attempting to read memory at "FFFFFFFFFFFF" and then it goes through a stack crawl dumping memory values to the window.

For the record, I figured out the problem I was having loading Software List games. I was editing the mame.ini file in the main MAME folder which had both "roms" and "software" in the Romspath. However, the mame.ini in the "ini" subfolder only had "roms" and not "software". When I deleted the mame.ini in the main MAME folder to eliminate the conflicting mame.ini's, it worked!

Emu Loader first search for mame.ini or mycustom_mame_filename.ini in MAME's root folder (same place as .exe file).
If neither is found, then EL look for those files in mamedir\ini\ path.
There is no way EL would crash if you have both files in both MAME root and mamedir\ini sub-folder. I have no idea why EL is crashing in this situation.
Quote:
Robbbert: The main mame.ini has only one function: to tell MAME where the "ini" folder is. Then MAME reads ini\mame.ini for all the info it needs.
Emu Loader doesn't support that.
EL does not re-read mame.ini in the mamedir\ini sub-folder if it finds the file in MAME's root folder.

no, main mame.ini in root folder contains all MAME options. no one uses ini\mame.ini.
