analog controller latency in recent/current MAME...
#350714 - 02/26/16 10:54 AM

Basically, my U360 stick feels 'looser' (less accurate) when playing, say, DK in current/recent MAME versus pre-video-re-write MAME. I've always felt this was so, but have been reminded tonight in comparing DK game-play bewtween .157 and .104 . I know that the controls code has changed over time and all, but why would the tracking be [less accurate]?....or perhaps it's more, hence more room for error?....

Input lag in MAME is as old as the hills. Play Tekken 1/2/3 in MAME then play the real arcade version (or the one included with Tekken 5 on PS2, or even the PS1 port for that matter).

I'm talking about games like dkong, which my machine is powerful enough to run beyond 100%, which suggests to me the codebase, but am curious to know.

There is no input lag. If you have a display capable of running @ 60.606061 Hz it plays exactly like the real machine/hardware does

GroovyMAME has a feature specifically aimed at lowering input lag. More info in this thread...

It doesn't feel like lag, though. Maybe it is but so little that it's more like a loose hinge than a busted one....

I'm not an expert player, but I hear a lot of people complain about not having the right stick for the job. In this case a 4-way stick. Are you setting the U360 to 4-way mode before playing Donkey Kong? I don't really notice any lag myself either in Analog or 4-way mode.

Yeah, map is 4-way. Using the same stick in both instance, of course. We'll see what happens with the new rig.

For a long while, I haven't been using a front end, so it's been left at 4-way. MAME does its own per-game mapping....which I tried out, when Headkaze revealed his mapper for that...but I haven't bothered since then, cos I already had all the maps set up for Mala.
