4K Resolution Errors in MAMEUI64
#350549 - 02/22/16 08:16 PM Attachment: mameui.gif 42 KB (0 downloads)

Hello Friends,

i know, this forum is very tech'y' and specific but there is a little thing that makes me sad. I have a 4K Monitor and my resolution is about 3840x2160 pixels. Because of the very high DPI ratio, the font is extremely small. Even not readable and i have to go to settings and change the font from 8 pixel to 12 pixel. But what has happen? Yes, the font is bigger but all Messages, tabs for snapshot-title-history etc. are nonreadable anymore, because they do not fit into the dialog boxes. And i am not the only one with a 4K monitor. The amount of 4K users is growing fast. Please make some hi-res changes to the UI.

THX

Give baseline MAME a try, it's got a new internal UI that may scale better and you can use all the art elements from MameUI.

Someone should send Robbbert a 4K monitor so he can test things. Not me though. Hell, I don't even have an HD TV. LOL

This happens because of the DPI scale. That's why when you increase the DPI scale in Windows (different than 100%), those visual bugs are inevitable in applications not made to work with DPI scale. I think MAMEUI is not DPI scale compatible.

My frontend, Emu Loader, is not DPI scale aware either. Visual bugs like that will occur and there's nothing you can do about it.

The application needs to be fully rewritten to properly support DPI scale... and I know for a fact, it's a nightmare job.

I also have a 27" Samsung 4K monitor. My Windows DPI scale is always at 100%. When I want to work on my frontend, I always lower the resolution to 2560x1440, otherwise I can't see anything.

Hey Buddy!

Hopefully you didn't accept that answer from a few years ago. lol.

I ran into the same issue myself with MAMEUI and MESSUI on my 4K TV.

I first tried increasing the font size (same as you) and got the same result.

Then I tried this instead (as per my screenshot), and it worked!

Just right-click on the mame or mess exe. and set your DPI settings as per my screenshot. Restart mame or mess, and it should be fixed.
