Japanese cultural phenomenon where he is able to multiply extremely rare dumps but only if he releases them some day over the rainbow.

Considering it was only in production for say 7-8 work days, this was a really lucky find for me. And i've seen a lot of Nba Jam pcb's in my days.

Not much notable difference in 1.0 though. No skip-poweron test, no 4P/2P kit dips. No extra hidden players that got removed. Same codes as 2.0/3.01 for players at least. Probably a nasty bug in this revision that forced an update really quickly.

Bernard got it in a bulk deal, and when i talked to him on the phone, i asked what revision roms it had, it got me excited. When the game arrived it was a bit disappointing to see nothing new/removed etc.

Perhaps they added the 'haunted petrovic' thing in 2.0 as a tribute. (I've never heard this myself..)

My first reaction was that 2.0 was made quickly to support 2 players / more convertable cabinets but 1.0 is so rare that there was probably a gross bug where they sent upgrade kits out. Don't know.

Well, revision 2.0 also does not support 2P cabinets. The 'skip powerup test' switch is not working in that one either.

Only in 3.01 does it skip the self test, and support 2 players.

1.0 and 2.0 should really have those dips removed if we're being perfectionists.

The only thing i can imagine is that upgrade kits contained propaganda to make sure operators upgrade the game asap. (i.e. "upgrade now to ensure increased revenue")

Also i just noticed the pics on-line of the sound board have L2 labels as well, need to check the board if they have L1 labels.. (The roms on those boards do not get tested by the game at boot.)

Random pic

There appears to be a number of initials in this game as well that have no special char, but some progress in the game is stored on the profiles. (They defeated a number of teams.)

Edit: At least sound board U13 has L1 on the sticker on the pcb i have here

Awesome rom dump! Had my eye on this one for a while!

"There appears to be a number of initials in this game as well that have no special char, but some progress in the game is stored on the profiles. (They defeated a number of teams.) "

Looking through v2.0 of Jam, the high score initials are:

With the following initials:
Initials EJB, February 23rd
Initials CRL, January 1st
Initials TJC, October 12th
Initials GET, October 19th
Initials WMN, November 11th
Initials MDP, January 13th
Initials DOZ, December 31st

With the standard secret characters (13 of them):
TURMELL: MJT Mar 22nd.
AIR MORRIS: WIL Jan 1st.
CARLTON: JMC Aug 5th.
DIVITA: SAL Feb 1st.
GOSKIE: TWG Dec 7th.
HEY: JWH Sept. 20th.
HOWARD: HOW July 15th.
LIPTAK: SL(space) June 24th.
NEWCOMER: JRN June 18th.
OURSLER: SNO Jan 3rd.
PETRO: GNP Oct 8th.
RIVETT: RJR Jan 17th.
SCOTT: TON July 3.

Is this what you were referring to? I'm hoping this particular rom dump has the additional secret characters!
