Another great round of work there getting the game emulated and a good close out for 2015 with this game emulated. When seeing Smit's post, I was wondering how it could be emulated in such a manner that makes it playable, but you came through again in finding a solution.

This required moving the cab (a two-day job) and involved a 350-mile trek to get the PCBs (two full boards and a sub-board). Smitdogg also helped with the dumping and Ryan with the funding.

My thanks to those that worked with this. Reading the description above, it reminds me of the old MAME.net era of where Gridle (Santeri S.) would type a simiar description of when Gridle was doing daily MAME Wip updates. And there were similar scenarios of some folks driving a distance to pick up a cab or a pcb in order to get a game emulated/preserved.

Reading about the drive distance reminds me of back in summer 2001 when I got up at 5AM to drive from Westminster, CO south to Colorado Springs, CO to a tourist attraction in Manitou Springs, CO where I could do audio recordings of games (primarily Atari/Kee Games Sprint 2) before 8AM when general public would arrive as the tourist attraction opened for the day. I wanted to get clean audio recordings of Sprint 2 for either external audio samples in MAME, if possible, but it wasn't possible the way how some audio sounds are generated. Fortunately in 2004, former MAMEdev Derrick Renaud was able to use the Sprint 2 audio recordings for reference while working with Sprint 2 logic schematics in order for Sprint 2 to have discrete/analog audio emulated.

Smit's post

Below is a video of the current WIP emulation in MAME. Note that the flags at the sides are not part of the screen, but a simulation of the mechanical arms, done with MAME's Artwork system, to provide a visual feedback of the cabinet state to the player (eventually actual images extracted from photos of the cabinet should replace this crude approximation):

The current artwork method is good enough and should be left in for any users that don't generally use external artwork features, but I do agree with consensus that if high quality photos can be made of cab and various components I can see Comboman with his talents doing a great job with external artwork support for Captain Flag. I can also picture the 3D cab group making a good 3D creation of the cab like they have done with other cabs over the years.
