Error 255: The extended attributes are inconsistent.

Hi everyone,

I just updated MAME and EmuLoader. While I was playing Mortal Kombat 4, the game crashes after in the middle of Raiden's intro (right after he said he banished Shinnok to Earthrealm). MAME crashes and EmuLoader gives me the error code 255. The same crash happens after I skip the intro and play the game after several minutes. I even created a new games list to match with my current version of MAME and the same thing happens.

Is there anything that can be done to address the issue?

mk4 crashes in official MAME as well when playing after several minutes.

I haven't compiled a symbols build yet for 168 so I don't have a stack crawl or any information right now.

Not sure if this is garbage data or not but each crash gives different information.

interesting, I know it used to crash quite a lot, but when MooglyGuy made the blending fixes I played it a fair bit without seeing it crash.

do you have -mt turned on? we know -mt is unsafe in certain situations, although I wouldn't expect it to make a difference in this one.

the trace that was posted suggests it's in the rendering code (although turning off -mt won't turn off threaded poly rendering) so it's possible the rendering code isn't 100% thread-safe and more likely to crash on certain machines if it ends up attempting to render invalid data due.

running with mame64 mk4 -numprocessors 1 will force MAME to only use 1 core I believe, might be interesting to see if that changes the behaviour (will make the emulation very slow tho)

I double checked my mame.ini and multithreading is set to 0

Try playing again if you can. On average it seems you can't get through two opponents before the crash happens. Characters chosen has no effect.
