Yep, I noticed it too ! I tested it on two differents machines (windows 7 64bit) and the same problem was present. I tried some tricks, like start the "exe" in administrator mode, in case of it been a matter of rights but it failed. In fact I found out that Mameui64 correctly create a mame.ini in the "ini" folder during the first launch but if you delete or rename this "mame.ini" file, when mame is running then modify anything in "game defaut options" menu, and finaly apply...nothing happens
Anyway I've had to modify "mame.ini" to active my options, and now it works just fine. I also find an option in this "ini" file suppose to active the write option but that doesn't work better... I'm perplex... God I hate don't understand ^^' !

Try to put your .dat files into \DATS\ folder and restart the emulator............

Thanks pal that's work putting the .dat file's on dats folder worked on both MAMEUI and MAMEUIFX its strange because I always used to put them on the root of the emulator it self this is new to me but its still you can't show the history on snaps or flyer tab in the interface option anybody notice that.
Now how about the default game option is still not saving when you exit the emulator any fix for that.

I have notice if you change mame.ini manually it will save the changes but if you change it in MAMEUI and exit it will not save it
I have also tested on my laptop which has windows 10 pro with fresh MAMEUI download it from http://www.mameui.info/
I remembered that this problem came on MAMEUI 0.166 and onward MAMEUI 0.165 doesn't has this problem as I tested it just now on the same PC and on my Laptop

Even me Robbbert I did everything to make it work but nothing happened I've tried to download afresh one without adding any extra files or folders on it and nothing happen then I've download MAMEUI64 0.165 and MAMEUI32 0.165 and they worked fine except the version 0.166 and 0.167. I have double checked the problem on other PC and it has the same problem.
I will wait for MAMEUI 0.168 and to check if it will work or not.

I'm having the same issue they're having and I'm quite certain it's a bug in the program. I've changed no .ini directly and I've done nothing but tick the same Default Game Options I usually use, set up controls, and refresh my game list. Every new version of Mameui I use, I start with everything fresh from the 7z (minus the game folder of course), and this has been an issue since 0.166 for me.

I can only confirm the issue and make Robbbert aware of it.
I put MAMEUI64 in an empty folder, then from command-line I executed: MAMEUI64 -cc as per Robbbert directives. Then I launched the program, and entered in Default Options. Enabled "Run In a Window" which is by default disabled. Confirmed. Launched a random game, yes, it is displayed in windowed mode. So the change was taken in account. Exited, closed the program. Re-launched MAMEUI, went into Default Options again and.... ta-dah... "Run In a Window" is disabled again. The modified settings was not saved. Or better, it's probably that it was saved the first time I modified it and then overwritten with default values again when I exited the program.
Yes, there's a bug, it seems.

Thank Mamesick
That's what I was talking about you can only make change to mame.ini by open it and change the values manually and save it in this way MAMEUI keeps the changes but when you change in the emulator it does not save the change after exit
I hope Robbbert fix it in next release

I realize my post is a little late, but installed MameUI64 v0182 (Jan 2017) and had the same problem! No settings were being saved. I even had to 'refresh' the list of games every time I loaded MameUI otherwise it wouldn't list my ROMs as "available."
The solution was to move the entire program folder out of the "Program Files" folder. The "Program Files" folder is a special Windows (BTW, I'm running Windows 10) folder and, I'm guessing, MameUI can't write any changes because for whatever reason it does not have the right permissions.
I moved MameUI64 to a new folder arbitrarily called Apps located in c:\. For good measure I also set/reset the Windows permissions in the Apps folder (and all child folders) so that all users had full access. I also took away any read-only flags that were in the folder. Easy.

My MAMEUI64 isn't in the Windows folder - it's in C:\emulation\mame. Yet every time i open and close the app, all my roms have disappeared, and I have to do a rescan which takes about 45 minutes!!!! Any advice would be much appreciated!
