Two U-Trak setup questions

I just got my cabinet setup, with an I-Pac 2 hooked up to a Raspberry Pi, running RetroPie. All the other buttons and joysticks work, but I'm not getting any response from the U-Trak. One thing I did notice is that only one of the connectors has a ground wire (I think the Y-axis one). I'm not sure if that's supposed to be that way, or if that's part of the problem. Does anyone know if there might be additional setup steps I need to take in order for RetroPie to recognize/configure the trackball? Specifically for Centipede?
Second question might be easier. I also bought the LED light for the U-Trak, and am plugging it directly to a power source for illumination. I know black goes to ground, but do I hook the rest of the wires to the 5v power? I attached the "orange" (more like yellow) to power, but it didn't light up.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Well to answer one of my own questions, I discovered that the trackball works fine, it's the MAME4ALL emulator in RetroPie that doesn't recognize it. I tried the AdvancedMAME version of Centipede, and it worked like a charm.
Still no joy with the light. Figure I'll just set up a USB powered light in that spot and call it good.
