DU: Crystal System Pimps
#341999 - 06/29/15 05:25 AM

We just bought a couple of rare Korean Crystal System games that aren't PIC-protected. Haze thinks they might show clues on getting other games that run on the system emulated better. I didn't get enough in the Head On N fundraiser for that one so that is on hold for now but I'll credit the donators on these games instead.

Let's hope that these games will help MAME devs(Luca Elia) to bring Donggul Donggul Haerong to playable state.
On official MAME site says :
donghaer - Protection PIC hasn't been dumped yet.
- Is it undumpable or what ?

PIC is a protection device so it's not dumpable by definition. Some can be decapped. If these unprotected games lead to understanding what the PIC is doing then it might be possible to skip it or simulate it. I'm sure there's a better answer but that is my current understanding.

Thank You for Your answer and for all Your devoting to MAME

P.S. I do not think the PIC is undumpable in general, because I saw some of them dumped - for example in the same driver, the other game :
officeye - Protection PICs have been dumped but there isn't a pic16c727 core yet

You would need the history of it, I'm guessing the doc decapped it.

Actually thats not quite true. When you program a PIC you can choose to make certain memory areas externally readable or not. Obviously if you're making a protection device and know what you're doing you would make them hidden though.

ShouTime got Time Crisis II (TSS1 Ver. B, Japan), Rad Mobile (Japan), Crisis Zone (CSZ01 Ver. B, Japan), because it's undumps them.

Yeah people seriously need to stop nagging about this stuff. Shoutime works his ass off to be able to afford the games he buys and thus is left with very little free time to do dumps. So it's either no money to buy them or he buys them and people be patient for the dumps.

Yes he's clearly a cool guy and major benefit to the community. We should try to not discourage him.

I must admit I can't help being impatient for a dump of his Tokyo Bus Tour cart to get released though, so I can get it going on my home-made naomi2 driving cab.
