mouse is not working for mame 0.162

hello everyone, I'm new here and I recently started using MAME. I know this probably doesn't belong in this section of the website or something but I was trying to play VS. Duck Hunt on MAME version .162 and I couldn't figure out how to enable the mouse for light gun control... please reply if you can help.

Look in your mame.ini under section *CORE INPUT OPTIONS*
replace mouse 0 to mouse 1

I'm a n00b so how do I find that, I'm using version 0.162 and I typed mame.ini into the search in windows and all that came up was a notepad document.

I made for you a defaulted mame.ini
extract the zip and put the mame.ini in same location as mame.exe or mame64.exe
You can open it with notepad and decide what options you want changed.

thanks, and I hate to bother you like this but I opened mame, the mouse works on duck hunt, but now the games aren't full screen and it says "expect things to get bad quickly" and also says "direct3D: critical warning: a texture failed to allocate." and the cursor isn't on the same position as the crosshair.

update your video driver and install DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010):
