Thanks for qmc2 link but you should compiled for MAC OS too. It will be nice for you to have more than one. Keep your mind open, will you ?

Thanks! ;-)

No problem. The file contents are loaded in a new game tag, preventing from overwriting the players info from MAME. The only downside is, if you update nplayers.ini, EL needs a restart.

I'm currently updating nplayers.ini for MAME v0.162 but with the MESS merge, many systems are tagged as games. As the purpose of nplayers is giving info about games, I won't check if those are computers, consoles or calculators. It sounds complicated to sort all these things as some of them are multipurpose systems. So I'll put everything under a new "Machine" special tag to differentiate them from games (in addition to the already existing "Pinball", "Device" and "BIOS" tags).
It sounds like the best solution except for systems having a built-in game, such as the Master System console with Alex Kidd for example. But it will do for now. ;-)

well, Emu Loader is a frontend for arcade emulators. I myself am using a MAME arcade 0.162 compile, with only arcade games. If you use the full MAME, lots of entries are listed in EL's games list that can't be used as they are console/computer and require software lists to work properly. These machines are useless in EL since you can't run any games with them.
Only support MESS systems if you really want to.

I don't care about having MESS systems in Emu Loader as I use it as a frontend for arcade games only. But I would like that if someone uses the official MAME build with Emu Loader, all listed entries have their nplayers column filled. For MESS systems, it would simply be written "Machine" but at least, it wouldn't be blank. And they would be all gathered together (out of the way) in case of sorting by number of players.
The problem I have now when using the official MAME build is that only half the entries are listed in Emu Loader. For example, "3do" appears in the list while "32x" doesn't. I don't quite understand how it's possible.
Now if you find a way to list arcade entries only in Emu Loader when using the official MAME (which I guess is what most people will do), I would be happy to not have to add the MESS entries in nplayers.ini. But I think I would need to add them anyway because I don't know how other front ends would react (and as I use Emu Loader to check and fill each entry in nplayers.ini, I would need them anyway). But it would be great to find a way to hide them. The merge is still young, maybe they'll do it in the future at MAME source level.
In the current form, there seems to be a bug somewhere that prevent all entries to be listed when generating a new game list when in Emu Loader using MAME 0.162 when compared to list generated using MAMEDiff.
