No, but I want one ....

I'm closely monitoring the progress on things. One day ....

In fact, the 3D printer I most want is a big mother of a 3D printer that can print concrete so that I can build my own castle - complete with astronomy observatory, built in pool, man cave, secret tunnels, drive in "bat cave", and everything exactly how I want.

Actually, I'd settle for a lot less than that just to be able to build my own house and get rid of the dickhead tradies who spend more time on their mobile phones than they do "on the job", and that's only when you can get them to actually turn up to "work", and all the while they charge you $100+ per hour (Australia).

I'm well over that shit !

haha...

I ended up buying a Printrbot Simple Metal (kit). My 2nd choice would've been the Bukobot. But that was more expensive than the Printrbot. The Bukobot supports more types of filament than the Printrbot (PLA is the standard/type of filament). You could use ABS, but it's highly recommended that you use a heated bed (an extra $100 USD) so as to avoid warping/curling of the model you're printing at its base.

BUT... I believe you can also print something called a stage, or raft... To me - that's just wasting filament. Another 'technique' is to use something called ABS juice. Disolve ABS in Acetone, put a coating of that on your (regular/unheated) printing bed, and (allegedly) you shouldn't have the problem of warping.

The hardest part with the kit is calibrating the Z-Axis. Putting it together can actually be fun. But I'm guessing I'll still need to calibrate something else... Like the hot end, or the extruder. I'm getting "boogers" of melted plastic on the nozzle and it's making the prints come out sloppy...

The only thing I've printed so far is a 3mm square. The bottom of it is not smooth because of the filament running out and making the so-called "booger".

I have a Printrbot simple metal, it comes in handy from time to time. I'm starting to use it more not only for projects but for some simple repairs.

Just last night I was assembling a homebrew cart for the Commodore64 and needed a lead bender for the diodes and resistors. A trip to Thingiverse gave me a design and I printed it out in about 45 minutes.

Here's a design for a knob for a drill press with a broken crank handle.

I've also made this using the printer, a raspberry pi and some odds and ends the design can be found on Adafruit it's called a PiGrrl.
