Pekingese

What's the point?

I've thought it was Peekanese or... Well, I guess I never had to write/type it before, then I found out how it was really spelled... er, spelt? Peki-ngese "ng"?

Ah, so! It's just Peking'ese. I'll try not to say Pekin'gese.

But isn't pika when referring to the animal pronounced "pie-kah"?

That is correct... If you're from Boston. hahaha. Maybe "PIE-kuh" instead.

I remember watching a documentary about them on PBS when I was a kid. I was kinda obsessed with them for a while. I think I wrote a story about them for English class in third grade.

Pica's a mental disorder that gives one the desire to eat non-food objects, and also pronounced like the animal pika. Probably can't depict that in a rebus though.

Hmm. I'll be darned.

I seen the animal, and the spelling of its name. Then assumed the Pokemon character Pikachu was associated with said animal.

*Pfft* unless I've been mislead by that too and it's really pronounced Pykah-choo. j/k

No, Pikachu's name is just onomatopoeic mouse noises in Japanese. Kind of like CS Lewis' mouse names Reepicheep and Peepiseek in the Narnia books.

And here I thought it basically meant "lightning mouse".

In Danish Pik means cock and "achu" is really similar to the Danish onomatopoeia for sneezing.

"Cocksneeze, I choose you"
