Lepai amp not working....
#338937 - 04/15/15 03:11 PM

I've been reluctant to make this topic since I'm sure it's my fault.... Disconnecting an input to switch to another while it was still powered on.

ATM, I'm thinking of just buying another one...

Buuuuut, if I'm going to spend money - then might as well ask (thus, this topic)...

What would most likely be the problem? Like, a blown capacitor? Or some other component that would typically go bad when the idiot owner unplugs an input wire without powering it off first...?

Fuse, maybe. I've never heard of a blown capacitor like that though. I've always just seen them bulge, slowly die, then leak... (but a lot of capacitors are solid now so )

Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!

absolutely pop the cover and check the inline fuse.

i use those amps all the time - they do well for the cost.

I do get the blue light(s) around the volume knob when it's powered on.... Just, no sound from my either of my 2 speakers.

Well Tom, how do you know the problem isn't with your speakers?

.... fyi, they're these. But back to what we were talking about.

I don't see anything that looks like a fuse on the board.

...After image searching, I see the components seem to vary. Some are the same, some are different... It seems to be mix n' match. Anyway, the pic I'm linking to looks the most similar to what I have.

eta: I hope it's not the speakers.... I do happen to have some speakers I took out of a projection T.V.... Perhaps I should connect them and see if I get any sound from those.

Tried the other pair of speakers, so it's definitely the amp... new [Re: Tomu Breidah]

'Guess I'll just buy a new one anyway. Maybe I can keep the one I have now for spare parts.

I post the eyeroll smiley since -- like, I'd have any clue what to do with what.

Probably the module (IC) went bad. Do you have a schematic and meter? Check the voltages to see if it has power. According to THIS pins 25(+) and 28(-) are power. That's if it is the same IC.
Looks like they are cheap enough to buy if you can solder.

The IC on what I have here has HAAH0505.

Edit: Maybe that doesn't matter. :-/

I would check for power at the IC first.

Pins 28 & 25... new [Re: redk9258]
#339112 - 04/20/15 03:01 PM

It reads 13.45 Volts.

ETA: Eh, so does the power adapter (obviously). It's supposed to be 12 Volts.

Tried another 12 Volt power supply (same polarity). My main (folded horn) Speakers sound like they're blown rough and staticy. Even the ones I used to test last time.

....Hmm.

Edit2: The other adapter I used is slightly different. The original output 3 Amps, the other one puts out 2 Amps..... Now I'm wondering if that would account for the buzzing...?
