Jamma/Jpac to Raspberry pi 2 - Control problems
#338338 - 03/30/15 02:04 AM

Hi.I am trying to get my arcade controls on my arcade machine wich has a jamma connection and is connected to a jpac device. I have a ps/2 to usb adaptor on my jpac and a usb cable from that to ny raspberry pi2. When I run advance mame on my rpi2 and try to configure controls with my arcade machine. No buttons or joystick movement is registering? The led light on the jpac is showing that its connected to raspberry pi2 as well. Can anyone please help a linux noob here to get it working please?

If I need to install linux drivers. Could someone please tell me what to type in the command box?

You can't use a PS/2 to USB adaptor. It won't work.

You can get a special USB cable from Ultimarc...

Do I need both a adaptor & usb cable?

How are these different to an ordinary adaptor and usb cable?

Why does it work with windows without this specific cable?

To make sure. This combo of this cable you have told me works without any problems on the rpi2?
Ie when you configure start button in mame on raspi it emulates key 1 then?

I don't know anything specific about the rpi2 or linux.

I just know that in the past, people have had problems trying to use PS/2 to USB adapters with the JPAC and IPAC and their solution was to get a PS/2 to USB cable from Ultimarc.

If you have specific questions, you might want to send an email to andy @ ultimarc.com to see if he can help.

That's ok looks like I'll purchase the cable. Which one is it there's two different ones and the pic is small.

There's three different cables on the page...
http://www.ultimarc.com/store/product.php?xProd=6

You select which cable using a radio button...

Cable Type:
O USB Cable for pre-2015 I-PAC (+$4.00)
O PS/2 Cable for pre-2015 boards
O VGA Cable for J-PAC (+$4.00)

I think you want "USB Cable for pre-2015 I-PAC", but I'm not 100% sure that's the correct cable. Again, email andy @ ultimarc.com to make sure.

Try this little app, attached above. It'll need to be in your start-up options.

Someone on BYOAC posted it, years ago. I used it several years ago. Don't be a chicken. Hell, look it up, yo.

Hey Traso, isn't this utility for Windows? 99% of the people in this thread seem to be running AdvanceMAME on Linux on a Raspberry Pi 2.

I vaguely thought of that. Possibly/probably not cross-compatible, but ya never know. I recall that people have typically had issues with Linux and peripherals, so it could simply be the kernel...or an obscure command it needs.

Hey, I'm in the same situation as you are. Which one of the three cables did you order?
Thanks.
