Pipo X7 For Emulators?
#337823 - 03/18/15 08:55 PM

I am thinking about getting a Pipo X7 link . I want to get this for Mame and also a Dreamcast emulator. I think it runs 32 bit Windows 8. Will this work for both emulators without any issues?

That's a Bay Trail Atom. That's pretty low-end for MAME (8-bit golden age stuff will work, and some 16-bit), and I think it's too slow for any of the Dreamcast emulators (Demul, NullDC, Makaron).

Oh...I see. What about games like SNK Money Idol Puzzle Ex changer? I was hoping maybe cyber sled also if I could find it. Would the Pipo X7 be to slow for games like this and also for the upcoming vector feature of Mame?

Neo Geo might run OK, but it's probably borderline. Cyber Sled definitely not.

I remember on my xbox original the mame port would run money puzzle idol exchanger with no problems. Wouldn't the Pipo X7 be more powerfull than the original xbox? Or is it because the Windows Mame version has more features and requires more resources?

Also, what alternatives are there to Pipo X7 that would work(has to be a smallish device)?

Dude, just build a real HTPC. If you can't afford it, you can't afford to faff around with modern emulators, sorry to break it to you. These things are cheap as hell for a good reason.

I don't get why it's so hard for you to comprehend that the modern version of MAME would be slower than a shitty port of a 14 year old version of MAME. The emulator has progressed significantly in both features and in abstraction in the intervening decade and a half, and that comes at the cost of CPU time. You sound like those people who are astounded at the fact that they're not getting a good frame rate in Minecraft on their Core 2 Duo with shitty integrated graphics. New features and improvements come at a cost. Deal with it and stop even remotely thinking that one of these cheap-ass little boards is going to work well for MAME.

If small size rather than low cost is your primary attribute, a Gigabyte BRIX will give you full Core i7 PC power in a very tiny space. Add 64-bit Windows and you'll be stylin' with every emulator available: Dreamcast, Dolphin, PCSX2, MAME, you name it.

That was based on an old version of MAME that didn't do proper line-by-line rendering for NeoGeo. It isn't as accurate.
