Gyruss music level seems off

Has anyone noticed the music in Gyruss (in mame64/mameUI) seems to be lower than the original? Or perhaps the sound fx are too high? The drum beat and long notes seem to be okay (I think), but I can barely make out the melody. The version on xbox live arcade game room sounds closer to how I remember the original sounding.

I think you're right. While I haven't played Gryuss in the arcade since the 80's, TNT Amusements has a video of a restoration they did and the music definitely sounds different.

This is one of my all-time faves, and I played an original machine two years ago.
It seems to get louder after about 30 seconds, and it's a little tinny. But come to find out it's been getting broken, cos even in 157 it's quieter than what is normal. I compared with .104, and .157 is about 2/3rds, .159 is half at best.
