setting/command line -memcard_directory status

Is the memcard_directory entry in mame.ini and -memcard_directory cmdline parameter removed for good ?
I'm asking because they don't work anymore and cannot be found in the source code, but MAME's documentation files are still listing this setting and its cmdline parameter.

IIRC they have been removed from the core at least 1 year ago or less...

ok, thanks. I wonder in what version that happened, I didn't even noticed. Can't find any change logs with the removal notice.
