Killer Instinct: Black Bar / Border on Right of Screen during Matches Only

Greetings:
SDLMame 0.148
Full Screen 1920x1080 res with opengl.
I've attached some pics that clearly show the black border on the right of the screen only during actual matches.
Interestingly, in the glacier stage, you can see snow effect drawn on top of the black border. I never noticed that before.
I did find the following thread but the thread doesn't say much about solutions and not sure if the poster is referring to the same exact problem:

I'm wondering if there is a way to fix the black border / bar? Any info appreciated.

Sorry about that - I should have done some research and looked at real cabinet vids to see if the same effect was taking place.
Looks like the old CRT's covered up the black bars. Took me a bit to find some vids of real arcade cabs that had gameplay. Even the promo vid for KI2 shows the same thing:

Seems that not all stags have the effect though.
