"If You Like Any Of These Songs, You Are A Total Asshole" is actually a misnomer. That's not what he is saying. He even starts the list saying that musical taste is subjective. Well then let me rewrite the sentence:
"I hate all these songs, and if you like them, I think you're an asshole, and probably I am an asshole for thinking so".
There, much better.
Recently I was thinking of writing a dictionary of terms for critics and criticism, so we really know what a review really means. I have two word definitions dancing in my mind for the last two months every time I read a review of a movie, an album, a game, or a new frying pan brand. The two words are:
Overrated: I don't like it that much, and I can't understand why others do like it so much.
Underrated: I like it so much, and I can't understand why others don't follow my apparently perfect taste in this matter.
I hate people who try to convince me that their tastes in music/movies are not only different, but better than mine because they say so and I'm so terribly wrong and I should be thankful they are trying to educate me in these matters.
