[xmcota] Akuma's continue grunt - bug?

I just noticed that, if you lose as Akuma in X-Men: Children of the Atom [xmcota], the grunt varies when you continue.

Play as P1, press P1 Start at continue: Wolverine's "Ha!"
Play as P1, press P2 Start at continue: Silver Samurai's grunt (closest to classic Akuma grunt)
Play as P2, press P1 Start at continue: same as above
Play as P2, press P2 Start at continue: Psylocke's "Come on!"

Is this a bug? This is tested using cheats to select him, so I would like feedback from those who can enter the Akuma code in this game (because I can't) before I tell MAME Testers.

MAME 0.151 (not bothered to upgrade yet - might do that for this and groundfx car ID bug), xmcota parent set (Ver 3.00 Euro 950331).

I used to play that game a lot, and mostly as Akuma (using MAME). What you've described above does seem right, iirc. But I can't say I've ever heard Psylocke's voice... Then again, it's been a long times since I played using the P2 side.

eta: I was thinking, at some point, when using Akuma - it seems like they use Juggernaut's voice... I can't seem to recall where exactly. I could be wrong though.


The way I always did the Akuma code: (highlight whichever character, wait 3 to 4 seconds or watch the other player's 'Insert Coins' letters flashing, move over the correct characters, on the last character - wait another 3 to 4 seconds) PAUSE the Game Emulator. Press and hold the required buttons. Unpause.

According to SRK Wiki:

(The button movements for this sequence are in the following order: Right, Down, Left, Left, Left, Down, Right, Right) When you stop on Spiral, press Light Kick, Hard Kick and Hard Punch simultaneously. If this is done correctly, the announcer will say "Spiral", but Akuma will drop down to take his place as your character.

If it matters, I've also played the Sega Saturn port.... Everything I said before about the emulated version still applies to the port (because nothing ever stood out as out of the ordinary/unusual -sfx/voice wise)...

But I still don't know about hearing Psylocke's taunt when continuing as you mentioned.
