GALAGA not loading past Test screen

Can anyone tell me why my galaga (all versions) stops on the test screen but wont start. When it loads the test screen the words are upside down, when i push 5 or 6 to add coins it flips the screen but it will not let me start the game pushing 1 or 2 player. Thanks in advance.

What version of MAME are you using? Try hitting F3. Delete any autosave states, ini files and cfg files.

Thanks for the reply, I am using .149 in my cabinet. I should have mentioned that, sorry. It was a fresh install, new pc. My HD in my cabinet died (version .59) and i bought a new pc but it seems certain games are a little buggy now. I had every game running very stable version .59 or ver .66, but now i see several of them are no longer working or working with problems. I will try what you suggested though, thanks.
