The sentence of "...classic arcade video games from the very earliest CPU-based systems to much more modern 3D platforms."

can be updated with the phrase 'CPU-based' being removed so it will read

"...classic arcade video games from the very earliest systems to much more modern 3D platforms."

because Pong says so. *kidding with gregf unfunny/sarcasm bit*

I know earliest should include Nutting's Computer Space in order to make it absolutely accurate, but who knows when Computer Space will be emulated since that has 4 or 5 pcbs to deal emulating with.

The other sentence that could be updated in the future (or not) is: ".....an arcade game's data files (ROMs, CHDs, samples, etc.), MAME attempts to reproduce that game as faithfully as possible on a more modern general-purpose system."

Will games that use external 8 track data tapes be copied to a CHD format?
(ROMs, CHDs, tapes?, samples, etc.) Or will they remain as an external data tape file?

I know the diskettes are treated as rom files and same with DECO cassette games. I don't recall ever seeing a discussion on the forum about 8 track tapes other than when "mw" had decoded data some data examples from Ramtek Trivia tapes back in 2008.

I am asking about the 8 track tapes because Quiz Show tapes are accounted for by one of the MAMEdevs at this time.

dumping update from January

Thanks to recent donations we got the tapes for Kee/Atari's Quiz Show. Andy Welburn is going to dump them for us later this year (we got the original version and Rev.A) and he also has some board sets of it so he is going to dump the missing chip so the driver can be completed.

It is just an initial port of the one that has been on mamedev.org like.. forever. Expect it to be reworked and reworded very soon to better illustrate the scope of the MAME/MESS projects, now that they are essentially the same.

Why not just use /docs/mame.txt and copy it to ./README.md or something? I don't get it.
