Parent or Clone affect decision process of MAME team?
#332285 - 09/25/14 06:51 AM

Does the fact of whether the game is a parent or a clone come into consideration when deciding to make available a working game in MAME? Like, let's say a parent game was released by a company. Then years down the road, the company releases a clone of the game that just has minor changes or just a revision that fixes a bug. The MAME team feels that the parent game is old enough to make available in MAME. And the clone game's release date may seem like it's too soon to offer its availability in MAME. But since it's just a clone with minor changes to it, does that play a factor or hold any weight in the decision process of whether to make available a game in MAME?

On a side note... I also find it strange that the company released the "clone" [gtsupreme] 2 years after it's parent Golden Tee 2K was released, especially since they had/were releasing/released 2 brand new games that very same year, Golden Tee Fore! and Golden Tee Fore! 2002.

Golden Tee Fore! 2002, 2004 and 2005 actually are in MAME, just in not working status. It's probably just a matter of a dev having enough interest and time to work on them.

I just signed up to this website to reply to this.

It breaks my heart knowing that just one g44 bin file is missing to make this GT Fore '04 working. The '04 games are so much better than the current GT 2000.

Well, maybe heart breaking is a bit much, but every time I swing the club with GT 2000 a little bit of my soul is removed. Ok, equally over the top.

Hopefully someone sees this post that can help get GT fore '04 working.

On second thought, I think maybe I did hijack this a little bit from the original thread. Sorry about that.

I was just so happy that another person was talking about Golden Tee Fore 2k4

Hi Gregf. Thank you for taking the time to explain the details about this game. This shows my misunderstanding of the required effort. I thought it would be a single rom dump, but that's why I'm just a consumer.

If I may, ask a few more
1) Given the many times over our current hardware is compared to this particular game, does that help our chances of getting this or the PCI subsystem has to be taken care of first
2) Will the modem part (I guess to authorize a system or course) cause issues as well?

Thanks again

No. And there hasn't been any case where that could possibly be an issue.

Because there were significantly more IT32 cabinets than Eagle ones in circulation at that point and they wanted to make money.

Thanks SMF.

That makes sense.

Would be willing to contribute in any way that I can to a global team willing to attempt to get these types of system working, specifically this game

Thanks for all the hard work!

Golden Tee Fore 2004 is now released as part of MAME 162.

Already up and running. It skips so i'm not sure if it's my sound card (built in) or my lack of a standalone video card.

This just made my day.

In fact, 2005 is working too. I'm so happy. Thank you to all the mame dev guys!

Sound skipping normally means your CPU isn't strong enough to run the game at 100% speed.

Recent work goes primarily to Ted, but it is a good start. Virtual Pool will be a good addition once the earlier hardware components get to a working state in order for Virtual Pool to be playable. Virtual Pool is mainly what I want to see working.
