Forget upgrading it. Chipsets have come a very long way since that board was made. Get a Xeon with at least 8GB of ECC RAM and you won't regret it.

Can you be more specific? Dual Core, Quad Core? Should I build my own system? Aren't Xeon's typically servers?
Also, I'm thinking of getting a laptop instead of a desktop....

Xeons haven't been "dual core" since 2007. Vas probably meant build your own system and use the most modern Haswell Xeon that you can afford.
Xeons are used in the Mac Pro and in servers but there's nothing stopping you from using one (as long as the mobo accepts a Xeon CPU) in a PC you build yourself.

My current Windows desktop is a Dell Precision T3610 with quad-core E5 Xeon, ECC RAM, dual Quadro and a SAS2 controller. It goes hard! It might be cheaper to build your own, but then you lose out on the three year on-site service contract.
edit: you probably won't get a Xeon in anything portable - it's workstation class and needs power and cooling to match

Hmh hmh hmh hmh hmh. I hadn't really looked up performance of things. I had the idea a lot of people today, even those doing music, were using laptops, because why not?, and then you can take them if you need.
I don't FB, so that's a non-issue.

If you are leaning towards a laptop consider going up about 500-700 for something a bit better and if possible an integrated nvidia. Start with the screen and find one that has at least 1080p. Go from there. In the 500 dollar range you are probably looking at 720p screens. Which really is not very good...
Considering what you have pretty much *any* current processor will be better than what you have now.
For 500-800 or so you could get a decent desktop. You probably will need a new monitor or at the least an adapter for hdmi as there is not much that has dvi/vga anymore.
I built a very capable intel nuc for about 500 bucks (16 gig ram, 320gig ssd). Doesnt play much on the 3d side newer than 3-4 years ago but pretty good for anything emulation related. You could probably do a lot better. But I really liked the form factor 
Really depends on what you plan to do with it...

Mainly music stuff. Running a bunch of VSTs, and multi-tracking, without it hiccupping. I'd prefer to keep my monitor, and I was thinking of using my existing 1tb drive, as well as the power supply (430w aftermarket). krick's suggestion is tempting.

The same one that was recommending a laptop or off the shelf computer... Have not seen many dual DVI laptops or dell specials lately...

That's pretty funny. No, I've been using OKCupid for several years, now. I have thought of using FB - a friend of mine met some chick on there recently, though it didn't pan out....they did fuck, though - but I haven't bothered to look up how it might work. Besides, most of the shit in the world I don't do, either, so it'd be slim pickens.....I mean pickins......

The new Quadros are all going DP++/HDMI only. You can use an adaptor to connect DP++ to a DVI monitor.

Lol, yea, you're right. There aren't anymore laptops with DVI. My head was stuck in Desktop mode.
