I-Pac 28 Input Issue
#331129 - 09/03/14 04:09 PM

I have an older I-pac 28 input board I purchased a long time ago for a project but never ended up using it until about six months or so ago. Initially it worked great but recently it has developed a problem with one of its inputs. While all other inputs give you an immediate response when connected I have one input that doesn't respond until you break the connection. Only after you release the button does it send input to the computer. I tried going direct from the common wire to the input but it does the same thing so it's not the cab. Anyone have any suggestions or is the board basically toast?

Did you try another button/micro switch to that input?

Also, unless you're strapped for inputs, I wouldn't worry about just one being bad.

I tried two different micro switches as well as using a single wire directly from the common input to the "bad" input. All gave the same results.

It's the input that controls the player 2 coin as well as a numeric keypad I'm building so it's not the end of the world. I was just surprised it had problems so soon since it's seen very little use.

This sounds to me like you have at some time reassigned the P2 Coin input to act as the Shift button rather than the standard P1 Start input, especially if P1 Start is giving an output on being pressed rather than on being released.

I can certainly look into that although I would have changed it on accident. Definitely possible though.

It is actually doing the opposite of what you're saying. It's giving output on release rather that giving output on press.

My previous post was a bit confusing since I'm not using the inputs as they are labeled on board. The physical input which has the problem reads "1STRT" but I have it sending a "6" to the computer for player 2 coin input. The actual "1COIN" and "2COIN" inputs seem to be working fine.

Looking over Ultimarc's site it sounds like what you just described might be happening. Thank you for the info. I'll check it tonight when I get home.

The physical input 1Strt is by default the Shift key and therefore only gives an output upon being released.
You have reprogrammed the board so that input gives the character for P2Coin to the computer but that input is still the shift key and will only send it on being released.

I'm positive you're right after reading up on it. I'll check when I get home but I'm sure you hit the nail on the head. Thanks again.

If it has helped, then I´m glad to have been of assistance.
Do please provide final confirmation if the "problem" has been solved. The information in this thread could prove useful for other members with similar problems in the future, but only if it is confirmed that the problem has been solved and what it was.

You were absolutely correct. I checked the I-Pac software and saw the shift key was enabled. I disabled it an the whole board works again.

Thank you!
