Arcade VGA and Sony PVM Monitor
#330234 - 08/20/14 10:54 PM

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on connecting a PC with the Arcade VGA card to a Sony PVM monitor. The model I have is a PVM-20L5 and is multisync. I am unsure of what settings to have the card at to display properly. Currently the colors are off and the image appears blurred.

(By the way, this isn't an Ultimarc question, but a hardware one.) As it's BNC-3, your cable may be mixing parts of the signal up. What resolution are you running at?

It's probably not the card - it's more likely a cabling issue or a configuration issue with the monitor itself. Is yours the HD version or the non-HD version?

I used to own a PVM monitor but it had RGB SCART input and was 15Khz only, so there wasn't really any way to hook it up or set it up wrong. I used it with a Radeon 7000 PCI card running at 15Khz via Power Strip (effectively turning it into an ArcadeVGA) as well as an Amiga 500 and a couple of arcade PCBs, without changing any settings on the monitor. I never had any issues with the monitor itself. The cable that I made had H+V sync tied together (AFAIK this is called composite sync).

From a quick google the 20L5 looks like it accepts all possible analog signals, so it could get a bit complicated..
What cable are you using?
Which inputs are you using on the monitor?
Is the ArcadeVGA correctly set up for 15Khz operation?
Do you know how to get into service mode so that you can configure it to accept the signal coming from the ArcadeVGA?

Have you seen this topic? There's a mention of how to do a factory reset, perhaps this is a good first step: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45707

There are people here who can help you but many of us don't own an ArcadeVGA or a monitor like yours so you'll have to provide more information.

Hi-
Thanks for the responses. I have tried 2 different rgb to vga cables into the rgb input - one with the h and v sync combined and the other with the h and v sync separate into a bnc y splitter. The resolution I tried running at was 640x480 and I'm not sure if the card is setup properly at 15khz...and I do know how to enter the service mode on the monitor.
