I read the following from History.dat about The NewZealand Story:
Quote:
NOTES:
- There are three versions of TNZS supported: 1) "tnzs". New hardware revision. 3 Z80 and no M-Chip (8742 MPU). 2) "tnzsj". Standard hardware. 2 Z80 and the M-Chip. 3) "tnzso". Standard hardware. Harder gameplay, old Taito logo. Maybe a prototype? The three versions all have different levels!
I checked out the parent and all it's clones. It appears that there are not just three, but FOUR versions of the game that all have different levels. History.dat forgot to include the prototype version tnzsop.
So the following parent/clones of the game that have different levels are: My question is... Are these levels actually new or are they just rearranged. (Random hypothetical example: tnzs Level 3 is the same level as tnzso Level 8.) It would be awesome if all or most of the levels are, in fact, unique to each other.

Use savestates to find out. Then pass the info on to Alexis at History.dat .

Agreed, no one seems to have made disassemblies or experimented with gameplay to determine the differences. I recommend you do so, Big Karnak. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

With hundreds of levels and 4 different versions, it seems like it would be extremely difficult to find out if the levels are truly new. IMO, the most feasible way to figure this out is to view the levels' maps. (Ex: http://www.nesmaps.com/). But I don't know how to make them.

Use the round select mode to investigate: http://tcrf.net/The_NewZealand_Story_%28Arcade%29
