Voip recommendations?
#327817 - 07/06/14 04:10 AM

I'm thinking of changing over to a dryloop DSL and just dropping my phone service.

..But, using a voip service instead. Which, from what I understand, allows me to have more control over things. Like call blocking, or allowing certain numbers to call me. With my current phone service (CenturyLink) I can only block local calls. But being someone that works the graveyard shift, and sleeping days, it would be great to block calls that aren't local (e.g. nuisance calls for charity organizations, reducing my credit card interest rate, etc. -even though I'm registered on the 'Do Not Call' list).

So, any recommendations?

I got rid of phone service five years ago, and mute/unvibe my phone when I'm sleeping. My internet of at least 15 megs down (less than a meg up, but not a problem for me) is $19.99 - because I said 'whatchu got for me lest I bail?'

Lacking features, but I doubt there's anything cheaper than MagicJack. It's like $95 at times for 5 years of service. Buying one for <$50 starts off with a Year of service.

Ooma new [Re: Tomu Breidah]
#330789 - 08/28/14 05:24 AM

I've decided on using Ooma.

....Probably not related, but I've changed over to Pure Broadband. I'm still waiting on a new DSL the phone company is supposed to send me, yet I'm still able to access the internet (obviously).

I'm not sure if I should go ahead and register and activate my ooma now, or if I should wait until I get the new DSL.

I can't think of any problems it would cause on their end (registering/activating -wise). I'm just wondering if something would get messed up on my end... Using my current/old DSL, then switching over to the new one -whenever it finally gets here.
