Issue with pause in MAME

Sometimes, when I un-pause a game, it slows to running at 50%. If I then alt+tab out then back into MAME, it's back to running at 100%.
Anyone else getting this and/or know what the problem might be?

I can't reproduce this trying random games while running windowed mode. Can you specify what game this behavior consistently happens for you?

It seems to happen on all games, about 50% of the time I un-pause. I'm using the latest MAME (.153) but it also happened with .152. I should have also said I run MAME fullscreen.
