Very strange earthquake this morning. Not only was it felt kind if everywhere around Japan, but NAF Atsugi is between the epicenter and Tokyo, while it was stronger in Tokyo than here.
And the kicker... It was over 90 miles deep. It was NOT plate movement.

I was here for the March 2011 quake... this was nothing. Probably no damage at all. Good thing it was a dry weekend though; it could have caused some mean landslides.
Buildings however are specifically built for earthquakes around here. Makes it fun when you're in a tall building because they are designed to swing (foundations basically sit on top of huge springs).
It might sound funny to someone who doesn't experience earthquakes all the time, but this one seriously felt different. Another indication that it wasn't your standard plate movement. That's kind of exciting because if Mt. Fuji is going to erupt in my lifetime, I'd like to be here when it happens
Sadly, there aren't any new vulcanic warnings going on but I'm sure it's all being looked at very closely this morning.

I'll bet it turns out to be viral marketing for the new Godzilla film.
