So... I just pulled out my spring clothes...
#325012 - 04/21/14 01:02 AM

Was going to dress respectably for Easter brunch, and I have nothing I can wear. Well, shirts are shirts, since I don't care much about style, but all my non-winter pants are literally falling off. Between the point I changed to sweats and now, I seem to have lost 10 to 12 inches of waist. I passed by the things that are a few years old already.

There are some jeans waiting for another 6 inches to go away, and one pair that's so old it's got a waistline of half what I was wearing back in October, probably from the '80s, but... I'm going to need to do something here.

No, I don't know how much weight I may have lost, as I'd given up on scales... last century.

You have spring clothes? new [Re: TriggerFin]
#325017 - 04/21/14 05:08 AM

I've worn t-shirts and jeans year round for years. I thought I was being pretty snazzy busting out a long sleeve shirt and new-ish jeans for Easter, until my wife pointed out that I was still essentially wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

I can commiserate on the clothes not fitting, though. HR is doing a "Biggest Loser" contest at work. I originally kind of signed up just because they needed people to sign up, but I decided to really give it a shot. I've lost 21 lbs. in 4 weeks so far, mainly just by following my patented "Don't eat 45 tons of shit every day" diet. My exercise regimen is limited to chasing 2-year-olds around right now, but I'm hoping to get my bike on the road soon. First prize is an Epiphone Casino, I'm hopeful that I have a shot.

Nice! ...Well, especially if you play guitar. And if you don't play then maybe it's a good excuse to start learning.

I just started a supplement approach. Garcinia Cambogia. Haven't lost any weight yet, but I do feel like it's lowering my appetite a bit. Seems promising to me. I've been eating *relatively* healthy for a while now, tons of vegetables and such. My problem is the *tons* part. Eating healthy still isn't healthy when you eat too much of it...

Well, being an individual with (what some would call) a freakish metabolism - I've always been able to eat "whatever I want"... Granted, I avoid a lot junk food. But I can't say I eat the most healthy stuff all the time.

Anyway, the point I was going to make is that your activity level makes a difference in your weight. For a long time I weighed 130 some lbs. Then I had a knee joint replacement... After that I went up to 170.... then 180. I think I'm more like 195 now.

Age probably has a lot to do with it too. 38 years old... (piss, I'm almost 40!) I'm sure that if I could go on walks that I could slim my waistline a bit. Running would be even better, but not likely given that I have bad knees. Mowing my whole lawn in 1 day can put me in an acher of pain.

That's where 'acre' originated from. Back in the old days - the more land a man had the more work he did on it. By the end of the day he was really aching. If a man had a lot of acres, he'd always end up with a lot of achers.

'bout the same. 38. I hover now between 186~192. Used to wear size 32, now I'm more comfortable in a 36 with a belt (and a bit of dunlap... not quite but kinda).

Winter clothes: things that are actually warmer than jeans, since I prefer lightweight jeans to the heavy-duty ones.
Spring clothes: jeans and long-sleeve shirts, a couple pairs of slacks, tees on warm days.
Summer clothes: lose the long sleeves, possibly wear shorts if not going anywhere (still have ugly scar around one ankle).
Fall clothes: still tees, lose the shorts again.

My shirts rarely have more than two buttons, and I wore a tie once a few years ago, but not with a suit.
I've been wearing things with elastic and draw-string waists for the past several months. I had noticed trouble keeping them on.

It isn't something she could do, hopefully.

No, I didn't get sick. Well, I did for a bit, but not in a way that causes weight loss.

I replaced will power, which I really haven't much of, with you-literally-cannot-afford-to-buy-that-burger power. "DoubleQP with awesome goop and large fries covered in more goop" has been replaced with "canned or frozen things," and "pizza eaten solo, dessert after" has been replaced with "ramen." "Two sausage egg cheese McMuffins and a pastry" has been replaced with "damnit, I want breakfast" and a supply of sugarless drink mix. And vitamin supplements, when I remember them.

So basically, shopping and buying all the food I'll be eating for two weeks on a really tight budget, rather than fast food lunch and delivered dinner every day.

I remember coming close to the weights both of you mention -on the high side of them- in my early twenties, when I managed to avoid being kicked out of the army long enough to be done with it.

Fresh food? I have space to grow things, but that space is frequented by deer and rabbits already, just with the grass and crabapple trees. My yard avoids being a swamp by having had tons of dirt trucked in back in 1970 or so. That swamp is some fifteen-twenty meters away.
And I don't think I could currently care for more than a couple herbs in a window. If they were things that repel insects. Still not exactly what you might call "fit." I've considered taking daily walks to my bicycle. (OK, I'm getting rather less than serious now, time to leave this post.)

I've played for about 27 years now, and I have a modest collection of guitars. But I haven't bought one in about 15 years, and a new toy is always fun.

Your heart and joints probably appreciate the reduced workload.

I could eat whatever I wanted without exercise or weight gain until I was like 26 or 27. Then I had to make a choice between getting fatter or not. I usually chose fatter with periods of choosing less fat sprinkled in.

I'm 38() too now, and pretty active. So is this guy.
I don't feel running is that effective for weight loss unless you're doing high mileage. You would problemy be better off finding some sort of HIIT workout that agrees with your knees.

best low impact way to lose weight (if you really want to WORK at it) is an elliptical machine. You can burn mad calories with it without messing up your joints.

As far as running goes, 6 weeks before I got my anchors pinned on we quickly worked up to 7+ miles, 3 times a week. I lost about 20lbs then... put it back on within a year though.

Nah. It's Kamp Krusty's exclusive program of diet and ridicule.
