Can't get igmo to work, using MAME 152

Using 64 bit version with Win 7. Loading IGMO, there's nothing but a black screen. No graphics are ever shown, no sound is ever heard.
IGMO is this game: http://www.progettoemma.net/gioco.php?game=igmo
(btw, is it better to PM the mods with bug reports or to post them here?)

Posting here is ok, especially if you have no one that you know that can confirm you have a problem. I would only post to MT when you are absolutely sure there is an issue and not an configuration problem - and that you are using only an official binary to confirm the breakage.
In this case, with both the latest 64-bit version from MAMEDEV.org and the current SVN - the game boots and plays fine for me. Try a fresh install of your binary in a new folder or try deleting your .cfg/.ini files related to this game and try again.

If you were to PM a MAME bug report to a forum moderator it would most likely be ignored.
The only situation where it is appropriate to PM a forum moderator is when you have some kind of issue with the forum itself or anything else related to what a mod actually does.

Posting a bug report here should have the same requisites as posting on MT.
If you aren't capable of confirming the problem (ruling out configuration etc) then you can't decide that it's a bug.

What is your full system info?
Did you installed newer Direct X?
What graphics card do you have? What graphics drivers do you have installed?

I'm using the official 64 bit MAME 0.152 binary from here: http://www.mamedev.org/downloader.php?file=releases/mame0152b_64bit.exe
Tried a fresh install in another folder (C:\TEST) Tried deleting the .cfg file (found no .ini file to delete)
Summary of my full specs: Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532) Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840T Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.9GHz Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4200 Sound Card: Realtek High Definition Audio Memory: 6144MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 11
The drivers for my graphics card are the last ones AMD released for it: 13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe 13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_32-64_hydravision.exe
Finally, I've attached a zip with my computer's dxdiag.txt which gives it's specs in greater detail. Also included are the error and verbose logs for igmo (and for alphaho, another game which also isn't working for me).
Honestly, I can't find anything wrong with my comp, everything seems to be working fine, and these are the only 2 games (so far) that I've tried which don't work for me, though they work fine for others.

You are missing drivers parts.
Step 1: Direct X drivers. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
Try the Direct X first. If the problem still there then ATI next.
Step 2 if errors still there. : Unstall Ati and then install these instead. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Code:
Optional shared pointer 'paletteram2' not found Optional shared pointer 'paletteram' not found Optional shared pointer 'paletteram2' not found Optional shared pointer 'paletteram' not found Optional shared pointer 'paletteram2' not found Optional shared pointer 'paletteram' not found
This is your problem.
After done these steps then the errors will go away,

Step 1: Went to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 and downloaded dxwebsetup.exe, tried installing it and got this message:
Quote:
DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary.
(Which makes sense since I already had DirectX 11)
Step 2: Went to http://support.amd.com/en-us/download, selected Integrated Motherboard Graphics, Radeon Integrated HD Series, Radeon HD 4200 Series, Windows 7 - 64 Bit, and then clicked Display Results.
The next page had this to say:
Quote:
AMD has moved to the AMD Radeon™ HD 4000, AMD Radeon HD 3000, and AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series new driver support model. These updates will focus on resolving application specific issues and critical updates. The reason for the shift in support policy is largely due to the fact that the AMD Radeon HD 4000, AMD Radeon HD 3000, and AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series have been optimized to their maximum potential from a performance and feature perspective.
As for the downloads that were offered: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_32-64_hydravision.exe
(Which is what I already had installed before)
So, for Step 1, what driver parts am I missing? And for Step 2, am I supposed to download something else?

That all. Try this clean mame.ini file out. Don't add anything to it. Just seeing it still giving you the problem. I have no clue why you having a problem. Let me know what happen after test this out. Make sure MAME folder is in C:\ and not in the any of the Program Files folder.
Don't use highscore patch and any other patches.
By the way. -cc.bat is there just in case you deleted that mame.ini file. Just click on it to make a new one.

Tried the mame.ini in your zip file Tried renaming your .ini to mame64.ini. Tried using the command line mame -cc to generate my own .ini
Tried renaming the folder from C:\TEST to C:\mame and tried again with fresh .ini. And I deleted the igmo.cfg file before testing it again with these .inis.
I don't think the problem is with the .ini.
More than likely it's because I have an integrated graphics card, which despite being such isn't all that bad actually. This sums up it's capabilities and limitations: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/314828-31-integrated-radeon-4200-graphics-card-good-gaming#5588296
But maybe it's missing something that other recent cards have...?

Could you please try -video ddraw and/or -video gdi ? Do you get any video output from those? Also, if you can, visit mamedev.org and try an earlier version (0.149) and see if the same issue happens.

If there was a problem with your graphics card it would show up every time you ran MAME, not just with specific games.

I think I know what your problem is.
Open your zipped romset (igmo.zip) and delete the file "82s123.u66" from the zipfile (it'll probably be an empty, zero-byte file)
For alphaho, the other game you reported not working on MAME Testers, do the same thing, but the file you need to delete from the romset is "alphaho.col" (again, it'll probably be a zero-byte file)

Tried ddraw, then gdi, then both at once with mame 152, mame 149 (your suggestion) and also mame 132 (because it was between when changes were made to epos.c).
No video output for igmo and the error log remains the same as before:
Quote:
Physical width 1280, height 720 AY-3-8910/YM2149 using legacy output levels! Soft reset warning: write to 8910 'ay' Port B set as input - ignored warning: write to 8910 'ay' Port A set as input - ignored CPU 'maincpu' (PC=00001579): unmapped I/O memory byte write to 00000003 = 01 warning - write 00 to 8910 'ay' Port B warning - write 00 to 8910 'ay' Port A
Then it just repeats the last 2 lines, along with occasionally the 3rd to last line.

You nailed it.
That was the problem. (thanks clrmamepro for giving me such a headache )
I will remember that fake filler roms generated by clrmamepro can cause these kinds of problems. I guess some MAME drivers have already added support for those still undumped roms, so if you have those fake fillers in your game's zip, then when MAME tries to run them, the game fails to work.
And thank you for your patience and help, all of you.

clrmame does not create roms which are listed as nodump files. They are actually handled as unneeded files and will be removed.....neither scanner or rebuilder create nodumps.
...unless you use some unofficial external datfile which forces nodump usage....but who'd use such a weird thing.....
...and nodumps are handled that way since 7 years....

When you load your new mame.exe or new mame64.exe then do these steps.
OK to all, OK to all, Yes to All and No to All. This way you can choose ether split or merge. This will also keep the bad dump crc to change.
Then go to the Advanced tab to turn off this by checking it. Mark disabled sets as unneeded.
This will not show the bad dumps and this will not create fake dumps.
I should've known that you have the fake dumps.

there are no special settings needed to avoid fake files. they are simply not created since 2007. and there is a difference between nodump a nd baddump flagged files......

Here is the picture of the real game screen. Odd colors in MAME. Doesn't match at all.
Edit: Nevermind about the colors. Colors are wrong in MAME.

Schematics: http://www.progettoemma.net/dany69/manuals/igmo.pdf
The PCB photo is not in AntoPISA's collection, it seems. However, it's always possible it's the same board as other EPOS games in epos.c, and perhaps there are PCB photos of those.
