Anyone here ever parted out a truck?
#321409 - 02/04/14 03:47 AM

Thinking of parting out my Yukon. Body has gone to shiat over the last few winters, and a lot little things are adding up quick. I probably couldn't sell it whole for $500, but could easily get $3K for the pieces.

Never cut one up, not sure what to do with the leftovers.

Yes, have parted/cut up many many vehicles over the years.

Easiest thing to do is unbolt cab/bed from frame, cut brake lines & cables, disconnect steering column, and lift the body off the chassis. Call your local wrecking yard, most of the time, they'll send someone out and cart away the effluence for free. Then, you're left with a rolling chassis/drivetrain, easy to store and teardown at your leisure.

I've gone the full cut up route as well (but only on unibody cars), just put all the pieces in a dumspter and was done with it.

Haven't done much car parting in the very recent past; I've kind of gotten to the point where I deem that my labor in disassembly, storage and sale of parts, dicking around with tire-kicking purchasers, etc, outweighs the benefit of any money earned.

That would be the deal breaker for me, right there. Selling a car whole is bad enough. Parting it out increases your exposure to Craigslist noodniks a hundredfold.
