If you download and look at the file that Dullaron indicated is on facebook, you will find that the uploader compiled and bundled a version MAME 0.148 with it.
So it seems it would be possible. But...
I'm not sure if that is the preferred method of distribution. I thought if somebody customizes MAME and distributes it, they are supposed to include the source.
I seems that, although Le Cortex (the creator of CPHD) is not selling MAME directly, they are using it to give away the demo, which indirectly will result in the sale of their product. Probably not what the MAMEDEVs had in mind. Unless permission was obtained first. I haven't seen evidence of permission one way or the other yet.
To get it in v0.153, I think someone would have to convince at least one MAMEDEV to add it, and also convince the rest not to veto it.
Also, it seems unlikely that the MAMEDEVs would want a game listed in both MAME _and_ HBMAME.
EDIT: And of course what redk9258 mentioned about it not being a real arcade game! Duh!

The Crouching Pony Hidden Dragon demo isn't available as an actual cartridge but the full game is. So if we follow MAME rules, the full game (once dumped, I mean "if dumped" since only 250 carts were manufactured) should be added to MAME in a few years, but not the demo.

actually, it depends if they're going to sell AES or MVS carts... if the former, MESS would be the proper target (unless people start bootleg'ing the game for MVS)

The demo be good for the MESS Neo Geo softwarelist right now. I think they don't know anything about the softwarelist. So they use the MAME neogeo source file instead to test out their demo. I will like to see the full game be supported to MESS in 3-5 years with the Hayaku board support and the homemade memory card support.

The game gets both MVS and AES releases, but it's a bit special: each copy comes in a 4 PCB set (2 AES and 2 MVS). The player inserts the ones he wants in the featured cartridge shell (which is non standard) depending on the version he wants.
