Short: GET ONE.
Long: So I got a new system and my e-penis is bigger than yours yadda-yadda-yadda. In any case since I could afford it, I got a 60GB SSD (SATA3). Prices aren't ludicrous as in the past, and probably most of you could get one cheaper than me. The box claimed up to 450MB/s throughput. Installing Windows 7 was a breeze. I couldn't believe it was so fast for spending 25GB of the drive already. But after some tweaks and installing the motherboard drivers, it just went off the roof.
I strongly recommend to get one SSD, it speeds up the system tremendously. While it wouldn't benefit running MAME or encoding video, everyday work speeds up so nicely. I think I'm going to have trouble working with any other computer after tasting one of these...

I bought a 128GB Samsung 830 SSD a while back. The boot time if fantastic. I think I had a post here about it. Here it is. You may want a second HDD for storage. It isn't hard to relocate the Documents folder to a second drive.
