What is the most expensive game you paid for?
Wing commander 3 for me... Bought a whole rig on top of the 80 for the special edition in the tin.

Going way back.... Probably Strider for the Sega Genesis, or Street Fighter II... either the Championship Edition or Super. It seems like they were around $70 or $80.
Those stand out in my mind at least... This was back in a time when I was in high school trying to save up money and not having a job at the time. I might've mowed a few lawns during the summer, but other wise I was skipping lunches at school. :-/
If I bought anything more expensive it probably wasn't as big a deal if I had a job and more of a disposable income. However, this was the year (2013) I more or less splurged on games. Nothing so much as a single 'expensive' game as it was the number of games bought within a 2 month period. But that's another story.

The most expensive game I have is The Secret Of Monkey Island, I got it when it came out in 1990, and I think it was around $80. No other game has costed me near as much. And that on top that I bought it with a friend (I paid slightly more than half of it to have it in 5.25" but I also got to keep the box).
As far as how much money I've spent on a game, I guess I've spent more than $100 or maybe $120 on The Lord Of The Rings Online. Not so much if you count I played it for more than 2 years. I know of people who spend twice or thrice that amount on a single year. Thankfully I was able to cope with my addiction this year. I've not played any other game since I stoppped playing LOTRO in January. Not even a round of Links 2003.

"Paid for," as a single payment for the game? That might be Skyrim, the last AAA title I've paid full price for. Possibly the last ever.
"Paid into," on the other hand, would be Sanctum. Not the one on Steam, but an entirely different and defunct game, a collectible-card-based computer board game, and one of two things which has me never again paying for in-game content.

It's been awhile, but I remember I paid a stupid price ($120?) for Zelda II back in the day. It was an import with a manual in multiple languages and wasn't yet released in the US. This was pre-internet of course, so no looking up deals online for a better one.
Coincidentally, I met someone sometime later who would become a really good friend and he claimed he sold the game to the owner of the store with a condition that it not be resold. Guess he didn't listen.

I've pretty much always been some combination of cheap and broke, so I've never paid more than $60 or so, probably for a new NES game or a AAA PC title. The most I've ever spent on a game, though, is almost certainly Motor City Online. As I recall, it was $40 or so to buy it, and then $9.95 a month to play. I don't remember exactly how long I kept it up, but it was somewhere between 6 months and a year.

Only one that I paid a lot for the two games with the goodies.
Buying the 2nd part of this game. Not buying that Collector Edition because there isn't a extra game coming with it.
Not worth it.

I have a few boxed games that I bought new back in the day, Virus 2000, Expendable. I found the receipt for Shiny's Messiah dated 25.04.2000.
It says 400 DKK which is about 74 USD. I can't imagine spending that much on a game today.
