Wow, Emu Pinball is...complicated...

Took a little bit to get just the VPin program up and running, but wasn't too terrible at first. Loaded F-14 Tomcat, VERY impressed with the play. Whoever is doing the table art and physics on these is crushing it.
Got so excited I started playing with art/DMD/back-glass on a second monitor, front ends, etc...and holy hell what a mess appeared.
Naming conventions between rom/table/art are all over the place. Several versions of each art and table file, some are version specific to VP. VP needs a front end to run multiple monitors. The front end needs a 'server' to run properly. Once installed, multiple files must be moved and renamed by hand to work properly. vpt needed to be altered and recompiled. Forum guidance and downloads necessitated registration at 3 different forums. Forum downloads for needed flies are a 5 click 3 page process. Load times through the front end are obscene as compared to the standard VPin load. Back-glass atempts result in my desktop and mouse disappearing....which appears to be a launcher issue....New launcher copied over...says to rename the backglass exe's to the table name...only have backglass uvp and pngs....Reading up on what I missed...VB sciprts to install...font packs to install...holy hopping hell....
eek.
//BTW, for any programmers who might be reading this "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Application Compatibility\Layers "Path\ttt.exe"=WINXPSP3"

I too prefer VP over FP. I like that it uses roms for the score screens.Italie is right, the naming of tables and art is way off.

Yeah, I totally agree with that. Hearing the exact sounds and voices as I can remember them from playing the real pins is a great benefit and makes the experience all that more enjoyable.
The 3D aspect of FP is cool and SLAMT1LT makes some quality tables however, for me the gameplay is completely artificial and I can't really get in to it like I can with VP (I've tried) I keep thinking, I might as well be playing TPA or Pinball FX2 instead of this.
Once one gets past the initial hiccups of making VP and PinMAME work nicely together, having dual displays with the scores and flashing lights on an active backglass is very cool. It's really a simple matter of making minor adjustments to a table's script or changing some simple options in the B2S Backglass Server and you're basically done.

I tried to get it working on my system months ago and gave up. But after seeing those full screen table shots I may try again. Soon.
