Good God Tires Are Great!!!
#319025 - 12/20/13 06:13 AM

The car I drive right now is a 2009 Civic Hybrid. The tires on there are the original tires through a few fender benders caused by some ass-holes who somehow have licenses. A couple tires have had repairs, and overall they sucked ass. This past week, a snowstorm moved through the area and I was forced to run out to the grocery store due to a lack of toilet paper and food in the house. I was fish-tailing left and right due to my tires being severely under inflated and old. I needed new tires.

Today, I went out and spent some money on some new tires. Yes, the $618 for four new tires, balancing, re-alignment, and oil-change/maintenance was a shit ton of money, but hell, I'm financially good for quite a while.

I can't believe how much better my car handles right now. I can accelerate without feeling my front tires spinning up, I can stop a good 10-15 feet sooner than I used to, I can make tight turns without fear of losing control, and I can frankly control my car better than I could in the past few years. It's amazing how much of a difference a new set of tires can do. Well worth the money I spent.

Oh yeah, I also had some great "cookies" an hour ago and feel so much better than I did before. No prescription medication can match what the "natural" treatments are doing. My shoulder actually doesn't hurt anymore. (I fucked it up back in May and because of my demographic no doctor will treat it. My physical therapist jokingly suggested the "natural" treatment, but I was suspect. I hadn't had that since college, and didn't want to get retarded. I must say, I can't believe how much better my shoulder feels now. Damn. I've gotten old).

Fuck yeah. If you want to improve the performance of your car and get the most bang for buck, the order to look at purchases is:

  • Tyres
  • Wheels
  • Brakes
  • Suspension
  • ECU

After that you can worry about "tuning".

I slid around on bald tires in my Mazda3 for way too long. I let it go so long that the tread was starting to separate on the inner side of the left front, which is pretty embarrassing. I finally replaced them and got Nokian Entyres, which are actually pretty meh. It's kind of bizarre, they're fine on dry pavement and they're pretty good in the snow, but wet pavement is like driving on a sheet of ice. I can't even imagine how you design a tire to do that...
