Cheats not in MESS. Are they in UME?

I'm familiar with MAME cheats, but it seems MESS cheats have been disabled. I have tried setting cheat to 1 in the ini and "mess -cheat" but there is no cheat on the tab menu. Do cheats work in UME?

UME is the same as MAME/MESS combined, so the result would be the exact same.
Cheat option does not show up in the built in UI for MESS 0.150 and 0.151. They do however work using MAME.
Nothing we can do right now except wait for a possible fix. I'll inquire about if this behavior qualifies for a bug report.

Ah darn. The reason I ask is because there is this old Apple II RPG called Empire: World Builders that always kicked my ass as a kid. So now I'm trying to cheat! At the beginning when you create your character, you roll your stats like Strength and stuff by pressing space bar as a rapidly changing number goes by. I've tried setting the speed in the mess.ini to a really low number so I can get all high rolls, but it seems the lowest speed that will go is 0.17, which is still too fast. If you set it below 0.17 the game will run at 30,000 fps as if it were unthrottled instead. I also tried pausing with P and frame advancing with shift+P, but inevitably that just gets me the number that comes after the one currently displayed.

After some playing around a bug report is not necessary.
If your cheat files are 7z archives then only putting the direct path to those are not good enough.
In my mess.ini this allows them to display
cheatpath cheat_advision;cheat_coleco;cheat_gamegear;cheat_gamepock;cheat_megadriv;cheat_nes;cheat_pce;cheat_pv1000;cheat_pv2000;cheat_sgx;cheat_tgi6
Mike, in your case about the Apple II cheats have not been created for that system yet, but you can inquire about them at Pugsy's forums if you wish.

I was assuming he wanted to search for cheats, arguably you shouldn't need a cheat file to be able to search for cheats in the first place.

I must admit that I haven't checked MESS for ages, but cheat finding shall be done the same way as for MAME, which is by using the integrated debugger ...
