Who was Falcon?
#315777 - 10/14/13 09:17 AM

Something I'll admit to up front: I have an odd interest in trying to track down who some of the more obscure and/or dubious manufacturers of arcade games and bootlegs were.

One of the ones that I'm most interested in happens to be Falcon, probably best-known for their widespread Crazy Kong bootleg. In amongst trying to learn more about them, I ran across this flyer for their games Burble and Yamato. The company name given on the flyer is Falcon International and the logo used is the same as appears on the title screens of many of Falcon's games, so there is likely a relation between the two.

On the flyer, there is an address given for Falcon International at 1127 Conveyor Lane, Suite 100, Dallas, Texas 75247. Interestingly, this is also the address (minus the suite number) listed as currently being the Texas office of Betson Enterprises, whom I believe are America's largest amusement equipment distributor.

While I'm not certain that there's necessarily a direct connection, it does have me wondering if perhaps Betson hadn't spun off Falcon International at some point in time in order to distribute bootleg PCBs from Falcon in the US. It certainly would have been a way to keep Nintendo's legal attentions away from the parent company.

Does anyone have any additional background on either Falcon or Falcon International? While there's nothing to directly suggest a Betson / Falcon tie-up, it does have me wondering.

They might have started as bootleg only but they contracted pretty quickly with Nintendo from what I've heard. They went on to make a bunch of gamblers I think. There is some other DK hack they made that has been on Yahoo Japan for years priced several thousand doll hairs. Who knows what their contract said, if they could just keep hacking the code to death or what. You might want to contact Fujix or Yasuhiro, maybe they could find out from documents within Japan.
