Sega Monaco GP remake (non-emulator)
#314661 - 09/17/13 09:50 PM

It's pretty nifty.
Says the author "geecab":

I've tested it on WinXP, Vista and Windows 7. The slowest PC I've run it successfully on is a Intel Core2Duo 2.2GHz, I haven't tested it on anything slower.

It's not an emulator but it does require the ROMs (not included).

I played a real one earlier in the year and managed to drive across the water in the bridge section. I wonder if this allows that too.

Always loved this game. Monaco GP is already in MisfitMAME/HBMAME along with nice overlay support etc. (albeit with road collision detection issues). Is this any better?

Dunno, haven't tried it yet - I'll leave it to one of you fine people. I'm just being a news reporter.

As for NonMAME candidacy - again, it's not an emulator/simulator but a remake. The only thing it would be using from the ROMs are graphics (assuming there's anything else there for a game that old.

Gotcha, thanks..

Yup. Even the MisfitMAME version isn't "proper" either, but it's a token NonMAME entry since it's such an obvious classic (without which we wouldn't have Turbo, no doubt) and will likely never be truly emulated - at least, not at a speed reaching anywhere near the original.

Yeah.. it was Sega's last discrete logic game IIRC. Even still, it was a bit surprising to see so much analog circuitry in a game from 1979!

The default is to have the mouse as the controller. Problem is when you crash, your car just disappears never to be heard from again. Seems to be better if you change to using the keyboard.

There's a bunch of stuff that was most definitely NOT on the original, such as the end-of-game score totals.

It's a great remake. Pretty fast I say but not authentic. I love it. Thanks for posting this. Everyone must give this a try. Now if only Tank can be simulated.

I’m convinced Mario is a hobo.
He wakes up everyday in the same clothes, runs around in sewers, and collects coins for a living.
At the end of the day, he uses the coins to buy mushrooms

....if only same thing can be done for Exidy Death Race.

Monaco GP has a sizeable fan base, maybe same number as Computer Space fans, so I can see why folks want to see that game emulated compared to other non-cpu video games.

Maybe Adam can make that for us.

This Monaco is sweet. Hopefully we can get an LED overlay/bezel with it. I doubt we will see it simulated anytime soon (if ever)

This is nice recreation that gives me the "feel" of the original. I hope he updates/improves it.

A nice start

I noticed that. The HBMAME version isn't perfect either as I said, but overall it seems to capture the feel of the original more accurately, especially with the nice artwork overlay.
