Completed all 40 Ancient Greek Geometry Challenges +4.
#312236 - 07/30/13 05:30 PM Attachment: Untitled.png 185 KB (2 downloads)

Added 10-gon, 24-gon, 48-gon, and, in what must be a bug, a 2-gon in 16 moves.

The pentagon, I'll admit, was just a matter of luck, but the last one I got was circle pack 4 in minimal steps.

I spent about 45 seconds on the web page and couldn't figure out what the heck I was supposed to do.

Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!

I had to look the Pentagon one up (feels so weak). I think I can remember the... eh, process. But most of the others I could find out.... But usually not within the minimum number of moves.

Yeah, on the pent I was just doodling, and had a "hey, wait, that there..." moment.

Low-count ones took some effort, and all the time since I first posted it.

I'm having trouble getting the proportions right to get them in the unit circle. That's been more of an issue for me than minimum moves.

This really only applies to the Circle Pack 3 and 4 challenges. One of the last things I worked out. The 2 is easy enough, since they meet at the center, and the 7 is 1/3 diameter, which can be worked out with a few moves.

Give it a week, or...

Projection.

Spoiler...

Draw the big version first. Later you'll want to go back and only draw part of it.

Spoiler...

You need the large circle center, a small circle center, and a single point on the circumference of both.

Spoiler...

Draw a line from the center of the large circle through the center of the origin circle.

Spoiler...

Draw a line from the circumference point to an equivalent point on the origin circle. This line must be distinct from the center line.

Spoiler...

Extend the two lines to an intersection point.

Spoiler...

Draw a third line from the intersection point, back through the center of the smaller "packed" circle.

Spoiler...

A point on that line, where it crosses a line drawn between the origin-based points used for the first two lines, is the center for the first origin-packed circle.

Transferring that around to the other circles should be easy enough.
