OK this is easy fix on a 16:9 1920x1080 screen.

All you have to do is change it to 1280x1024 to fix that hlsl scanlines on full screen mode. This is the only way to fix the problem. Try it out if you having the problem.

Note: Don't worry about doing this in the ini file. The problem still be there anyway.

Can you describe the problem? The only issue that I've noticed with hlsl is that the pattern of the aperture grill is not as homogeneous as I wish, no matter how I configure it, which is noticiable in solid color screens. Even worse is the problem of vertical scrolls (see Willow 1st stage, from the clouds to the ground). An ugly effect on scalines can be noticed.

I will explain here what had happened on my end. (Edit) new [Re: Elapido]

I had to switch to window mode for this to work. For some reason Windows 8 Pro won't take a snapshot from the MAME/MESS full screen.

This is an example.

You see what is doing wrong on the right side? It not scanlines right. You can see the mix of dark and light scanlines. Left side is perfect. This is why I'm using 1280x1024 instead of 1920x1080 to fix most of the problem. Anything past 1280x1024 can't be scale right. Older Arcade games and older systems games aren't made for higher aspects and resolutions. So I lower the settings.

shadow_mask_x_count 320
shadow_mask_y_count 256

is 320x240 on default.

4x 320x256 = 1280x1024 is a perfect fit. If I had a Arcade screen then it should look like the one from the left side.

"4x 320x240 = 1280x1024 is a perfect fit."

Actually that would be 1280x960.

But you don't need to change your resolution. Just adjust the x and y count sliders in game until it looks right.

Oh OK. I change it to this at the bottom.

shadow_mask_y_count 256

Gotten more fix. 4x 320x256 = 1280x1024

I wasn't thinking about the last one. Glad that you pointed that out. Resolution can get wacky sometimes.
