Is MAME inside avi recorder buggy?
#309844 - 06/05/13 03:58 PM

Does anybody else has problem with recording games to avi?

I my videos there are corrupted frames. For example, in one minute video there are few corrupted frames. Corrupted frame instead of image holds vertical stripes/lines. Second type of corrupted frame is that frame is shifted to the side.

I guess it's some codec issue. Anybody has these problems too?

which game are you trying recording? it might be one that changes dynamically resolution and I'm not sure how well MAME recording code copes with that...

Which version of MAME are you using? There was an issue where corrupt frames would be written at 2GB AVI boundaries but that was fixed several months ago.

Ah, sorry for short information. Problem appeared in all official versions downloadable from MAME official site. And I had problem with every game that I tried to record, Final Fight, Golden Axe 2, Ikari, Snow Bros, etc...
Now I have version 0.148.

I used to record avi, then I had to watch whole video and mask corrupted frames within VirtualDub. Then I would encode video. Now I'm tired of that.

Btw, is there some MAME version/build where I can choose codecs?

The official 0.148 binary does not include the corrupt frame bugfix. Either wait for 0.149 or compile/download an intermediate release.

I tried to use updates/patches. So I placed patch.exe, diff.exe and 0148u1.diff files into my MAME dir. Then I've done next (tried to follow info on updates page) and got next messages:

Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

And that's the end. I do not understand what's wrong.

You can download the latest versions precompiled, 32 or 64, or grab the latest mameui version.

I've been having the same problem trying to patch to u1(and obviously beyond). What causes this? I've already tried starting with fresh source and patch files all to the same result. Mine usually hangs at 'flop' then after that a lot of the MESS patches. I know I can d/l the u versions but I like to be able to screw around with things and check them out in game. But, I can't do that without a clean updated source to recompile... Any help would be greatly appreciated...plus even if I can't fix it, I'd like to know what's going on and why.

TIA

win 8 - (up to date)
amd x6 3.2ghz

Had no problems until u1. 148 and back worked fine. Usually if I run into problems I just start a new compile file and go from there, but not this time. I eventually also screw up something and have to start at the last final source so it's not like I'm new to doing this part. Just this round of u releases. Thanks for any help you can give...

When you patch, are you running as Administrator? Where is your source located?
If you type "patch -v", what version do you have?

Have you considered installing TortoiseSVN and downloading the source from the SVN?

It's all up to date.
I used Turtle up until I upgraded to Win8 last fall, then I just haven't messed with it. Been messing with other things and really had no time to play around with it. I've just been using your uploads this cycle. I'll just wait and start over at 149 then go from there.

I can get it to compile if I skip all the files it looks for to patch. But then it just exits out after loading the roms and goes to start the emu. It's not like the files it's looking for aren't there. We'll see.

Thanks for the help...
