Dust: An Elysian Tail

Anyone else playing this game? It's recently become available on PC through Steam, and I'm very impressed.

What do you get when you combine Metroid, Castlevania, a hack-n-slash beat-em-up, and an RPG? This game. The backgrounds, animation, dialogue, music, and gameplay elements are great. The fighting mechanism kind of reminds me of Shank in that you can combine moves to make amazing (and beautiful) combos.

I've had lots of fun with it and with some creative programing on my controller, it works fine in a cab (if you have enough buttons)

I'd recommend it.

Nope, 1 player only.

Found out that the entire game (aside from the voice acting) was done by 1 PERSON! A self-taught illustrator. Even more impressed now.

Finally beat this game tonight and I just have to say WOW. So impressive.

I don't think I've felt this way in beating a game since Final Fantasy VII.

Amazing ending. Amazing storyline. Amazing graphics, game play and mechanics.

Play it.

Really.

So I guess I've never installed steam since I installed Windows 8... installed because now I'm curious about this game and some stupid Steam Guard window pops up... don't ever remember turning on that feature... anyway, a verification code gets sent to a Comcast email address... wait, WHAT? I do a search in my yahoo inbox and see 2 email verification emails from Steam, Aug and Nov of LAST YEAR. I haven't had a Comcast account since 2009, so I know damn well that I updated my email with Steam. How the hell does crap like this happen?

This is what is making it a bit difficult to play right now...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2803821

Half the screen is black in any cut scene. Apparently that kb security fix is botched...

I don't follow...

Of course I'm on a legit Win 8 Pro x64 with all updates. Game seems to play perfect for me. Only had trouble getting into my freaking Steam account (which is now solved... they manually updated my email address on my account).

For any cut-scene I can only see the bottom half.

At first I thought the game was broke. However, I had installed all the windows updates. They (being microsoft) messed with one of the codecs built into win7 (some win8 people are seeing it as well). Which then somehow messes with my video driver. Which then messes with the new shiny game I want to play...

When a game glitches right when I start playing it and have no time invested, my play time goes to 0. I have too little time to be messing with a broken game. So I played and finished evoland instead.

So either I have to uninstall said update or wait for MS to patch it (again). Probably the later as when a game glitches like that my interest in said game drops quite quickly. Apparently a few games are suffering from this issue. Also not everyone is seeing it.
