DU Update: Deco tapes continued
#309568 - 05/30/13 05:53 PM

From the recent fundraiser, which frankly didn't go well, we got the most important (for dumping purposes) Deco cassette out of the ones at auction. The cassette we got is the 18 holes version of Pro Golf. We have the 18 Holes version already for the later pcb/rom version but now we finally got the original cassette version. It only took 32 years to dump. Not bad.

It's not strictly a clone of 18 Holes Pro Golf with the title changed. The hit meter is in a different place, players are different and there are probably other changes I haven't found yet. Just had a quick look so far.

Correct name is "Pro Golf 18 Challenge"
Version number is DT-1134-A-0 (Japanese, version 4 of Pro Golf, no revision number)

Also Artemio Urbina got version 2.7 of Mission Craft and a few days ago Brian got version 1.1 of WWF WrestleMania.

Hooray and thanks to those that could donate for this. Did the auction(s) show up at the last moment....something like a two or three day auction in which there wasn't much time to prepare for bidding? I am guessing this was the case with this recent DECO tapes auction(s).

Currently, only 1 of 2 is in working shape....and iirc there was a long ago discussion either posted on the forum or one of the dev wip pages between two MAMEdev members that maybe the first set, the working one, was from a bootleg pcb and is likely not an original Data East pcb....which means the cassette hardware version could be the first fully playable version of the game that is original Data East hardware.

Holding out hope that other unemulated DECO tapes, whenever found later, might still be in readable condition later when dumped to a more stable/preservable format.

Some of the ..."like to witness rare train wrecks.."... are worthwhile imo.

No they were normal length auctions and we caught them in plenty of time just hardly any donations came in and they went for several hundred dollars each.
